My favorite area of study is: 
marine invertebrates and coral reef ecology
When I'm not at AIO, I spend the rest of the year: 
reading a good book and relaxing at the beach

Mikayla Barnwell is also joining us this summer for the first time as a teaching staff member but was once a student in the program. Mikayla studied marine biology at Coastal Carolina University before moving to Roger Williams University to complete her BS in marine biology with a minor in mathematics.  In the fall, she will begin her graduate studies at the University of Hawaii Hilo!  She has traveled extensively to work in marine science including organizing a Lionfish derbyin St. Croix, volunteering at a hatchery in the Dominican Republic, as a coral reef research intern at the Roatan Institute of Marine Science and spending a semester at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science.  Mikayla has also taught in several different programs in marine science.  She's PADI certified and looking forward to getting back into the cold Gulf of Maine.  We're looking forward to working with Mikayla again!
